CHILD PROTECTION & YOUTH Protecting Our Youth As a parish located within the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Saint James is committed to providing a safe environment for children and youth. Persons interested in becoming a volunteer where there is substantial contact with children and youth are required complete the STAND process. To protect children and youth, volunteers are screened for their fitness to work with minors. The process requirements are:
Once the process is completed only then is a parishioner permitted to volunteer. Each applicant will be notified by Daria Kaas, STAND Coordinator as to when they are cleared for volunteer service at Saint James Catholic Church. For more information contact Daria Kaas at the office or by email at kaas@myactv.net.
STAND video training online We are pleased to announce that the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s safe environment (STAND) online training is now up and running. Either the STAND video or online training fulfills the child and youth protection safe environment training requirement for all volunteers who have substantial contact with children and all employees. The online training will be available via the internet from any computer at any time.
The course takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours to complete. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be able to print a certificate of completion. The participant will be asked to enter his/her name as well as the name of his/her parish or school. Note that this step MUST be completed in order to receive credit for the course. The screening coordinator must sign and date the certificate of completion when the form is turned in to the parish or school.
A username and password are required to access the online training. A username has been created for each location. A list of all usernames may be found on the Archdiocese’s web site here. There is one username for each parish and school with the same name (i.e. St. Ambrose Parish & St. Ambrose School would have the same username). The password for all usernames is archbalt.
If a volunteer or an employee has already completed the STAND video training, he/she does not need to do the online training. In addition, either the online training certificate or the training attendance verification form will be sufficient as proof of training in an employee or volunteer file.
In order to access the online training please do the following:
If you have any problems, please refer to this troubleshooting guide. If you continue to have problems with the training please contact the Child Safe office at childsafe@catholiccharities-md.org. If you are unable to print out a certificate of completion, please contact the Office of Child and Youth Protection by email. Note that a response can take up to two weeks as the reports are only received on a bi-weekly basis. Archdiocese of Baltimore Web Site - Child Protection
